The Journey of Mother and Daughter

It has been a minute since I have written, and I am glad to be back. This one is for the mothers. The conversations we do not often have. The hurt we carry from our children but rarely admit. The fear we tuck away. The prayers we whisper in the dark. The covering we give even when our hearts are aching.

Motherhood is not easy. Watching your child grow from an infant in your arms to a young woman finding her own way is a journey that will humble you. Personalities shift, choices clash, conflicts rise. Sometimes you look at the daughter you raised and wonder, “Where did this come from?” The truth is, no one really talks about how much children can hurt us. Yet we forgive. Again and again. Because love demands it.

And in between the hurt, there is the fear. Fear of what might happen if they walk down the wrong path. Fear of what life will throw at them when you cannot catch them anymore. That fear drives us to our knees. We pray. We cover. We intercede for them when they do not even know we are fighting battles on their behalf.

This is why September feels like such a picture of motherhood. The air is changing. The season is shifting. Life is moving forward whether we are ready or not. Our children grow, and with growth comes new joys, new challenges, and new lessons. Some seasons feel light and easy, others feel heavy and long. But every season shapes both them and us.

So why am I talking about this now. Because letting go is part of love. It does not mean giving up. It means trusting God with the children we cannot hold forever. It means remembering that He is the ultimate parent. Just as He gives us freedom, knowing we may wander, He also gives us grace, patience, and open arms when we return. That is the model of love we are called to mirror.

The journey of mother and daughter is not simple, but it is holy. September reminds us that seasons change, but God’s love does not. His patience never runs out. His covering never fails. And His arms are always open.
